The Authority of Jesus over History
Revelation 6:1-8
The Main Point: Even when evil seemingly “rules” our world, Jesus is still in control.
The first seal reveals a worldwide conqueror. (vv1-2; Zech 6:2-3, 8; Mt 24:4b-7)
The second seal reveals worldwide bloodshed. (vv3-4; Mt 10:34)
The third seal reveals worldwide hunger. (vv5-6)
The fourth seal reveals worldwide death. (vv7-8)
Even when evil seemingly “rules” our world, Jesus is still in control. (Rev 20:14; Gen 50:20; Acts 4:27-28)
Worldwide evil brings warning of God’s judgment: when evil “rules,” many will despair. (Ezek 14:19-21)
Worldwide evil brings faith in God’s sovereignty: when evil “rules,” we can trust in Jesus. (Mt 10:28-30)
Worldwide evil refines God’s people: when evil “rules,” we should grow in faithfulness. (1 Pet 1:6-7)
