What is the Gospel?

The word “gospel” simply means “good news,” and that is exactly what the Christian gospel is: the good news of what God has done for you!

The Bible teaches us that God created every one of us for a relationship of obedience and worship with Him. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

However, the Bible also tells us that every one of us have disobeyed God in sin. Romans 3:23 tells us, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Because of our disobedience and God’s perfect justice, we deserve punishment. As Romans 6:23 tells us, “The wages of sin is death…”

That doesn’t sound like good news, does it? Well, here's the good part. Romans 6:23 isn’t finished! The second half of the verse tells us, “…but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Although we disobeyed God, He graciously sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to earth. Jesus lived a perfect life, died on a cross, and rose again for the forgiveness of our sin. Because of Jesus, Romans 10:9 tells us, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Now that’s great news!

Christians believe that this gospel is the only way to true life both now and forever. The Bible is full of stories of men and women who tried to get to God another way but simply could not. Jesus is the only way. We want you to know this truth and allow it to change your life. Confess your sin to him, ask God for forgiveness, and trust Jesus with your life. If you do these things, you will be saved!
