Church Leadership is All About Jesus

Titus 1:1-16

The Main Point: Church leadership is all about Jesus.

The Context of Elder Leadership (vv1-4)

Why elders? Elders preach the gospel of Jesus according to the mission of Jesus. (1 Cor 2:2; Mt 28:19-20)

The Call to Elder Leadership (vv5-9)

Establish elders. (v5; Eph 4:11; Acts 20:17, 18; Acts 14:23)

Multiple elders in Jerusalem (Acts 11:30), Antioch of Pisidia, Lystra, Iconium, & Derbe (Acts 14:23), Ephesus (Acts 20:17; 1 Tim 5:17), Philippi (Phil 1:1), churches in the Jewish dispersion (Jas 5:14), & throughout the Roman empire (1 Pet 1:1)

Establish elders with Christ-like character. (vv6-8; Eph 5:25)

Establish elders with Christ-like competence. (v9)

Why elders? Elders point the people of Jesus to the character of Jesus.

The Concern of Elder Leadership (vv10-16)

The Contrast to Elders (vv10-13a)

The Correction by Elders (vv13b-16)

Why elders? Elders protect the teaching of Jesus from the enemies of Jesus.
